- Ontario charges land transfer tax on a sliding scale: 0.5% on the first $55,000, 1% to $250,000, 1.5% to $400,000, and 2% above that (2.5% over $2 million). First-time buyers can claim a refund of up to $4,000.
- Do I pay land transfer tax in Brampton?
- Yes, but only the provincial Ontario land transfer tax. The additional municipal land transfer tax applies only inside the City of Toronto, not in Brampton, Mississauga, or the rest of Peel.
- Who qualifies for the first-time buyer refund?
